My husband and I are so amazed at the tremendous progress our son has made in reading and writing since going to the MRLC. Our son feels proud of his progress as well, and it's a wonderful relief to see his confidence level improve so much as a reader and writer.
His tutor, Rita, has welcomed me in the room as an observer during the sessions, and I've thoroughly enjoyed watching and learning the various methods and techniques she uses. I can see how she continually assesses his comprehension of and comfort level with the lessons in each session, to tailor her plan for the next tutoring session. Even within the session itself, she glides through his varying levels of attention and cooperation through the hour with fun physical and movement activities, and adjustments to the lesson plan. Rita is ultra-patient and creative in dealing with short attention spans and oppositional behavior! And because of her skills, patience, and friendliness, he likes his tutor, as do I!
We look forward to continuing his participation in tutoring at the MRLC. It's great to see our son feel successful where he has struggled so much in the past.
I am writing this testimonial in recommendation to the high quality tutoring services my son has received at Madison Reading and Learning Center. My son, age 14, has had reading difficulties all through grade school. He received reading services while in the public school system, however, he never was able to grasp the tools necessary to be a proficient reader. His writing skills were even worse. Emotionally he was becoming frustrated and withdrawing from school work, social interactions, and. from peers. The formal testing within the school system was not diagnostic as to the reason for his reading and writing disability. The school testing only supported the fact that he qualified for an IEP for a reading and writing learning disability. We had him formally tested through neuropsychological testing and it was determined that his reading difficulties were of a dyslexic nature. He was referred to Madison Reading and Learning Center for additional supportive services. He has been meeting with Rita Warren, his tutor, twice a week for the last 15 months. She is knowledgeable in the type of learning methods he needs to be a successful student. Rita has been an excellent influence in motivating him to read. She is patient and advocates for his educational needs both with us and the school system. My son has a comfortable learning relationship with Rita. He can be himself and does not feel embarrassed to read for her as she understands his difficulties. The tools Rita has taught him in relearning to read have been nothing short of a miracle. His grades have improved from C's to A's and B's this year in eighth grade. Emotionally, he feels more successful, happy and like engaging in school. The school system has complimented his success and at his recent IEP. services are directed towards supporting John's new reading skills. My son will enter high school next year with a new confidence as a result from the services he received at Madison Reading and Learning Center and from his own motivation to learn.
We are happy to provide a testimonial for your excellent service. Our son has benefited enormously from his work with Madison Reading and Learning Center and his tutor, Deborah McCants.
He is now a third-grade student who is reading above grade-level, usually scoring 100% on spelling tests, and reads recreationally every day.~
Two years ago, when he started working with Deborah, none of these outcomes seemed at all probable. Our family has had a terrific experience with your business and wholeheartedly, recommend it to others.
Deborah and our son began working together when he was finishing first grade. He was not reading and did not know all of the letters of the alphabet at that time. He hated handwriting. He also was not happy about having a tutor, he viewed that as more "school". Wow, have things changed:
He and Deborah have a great relationship, she is professional but also personable. Hans is comfortable and secure with Deborah. He looks forward to their sessions. Best of all, he greatly enjoys reading now, and is reading voluntarily every day. He has developed legible handwriting and a nice cursive script. Becoming successful at academics has helped his self-esteem and confidence.
Thank you, Deborah and Madison Reading and Learning Center! Our son is becoming a happy and successful student. We recently received his test scores for the Wisconsin Student Assessment System (the standardized tests given to grade school children in Wisconsin) and Hans scored in the "Advanced" category.
As parents, we are glad that we were referred to your service. Our son is happy to be doing well in school. Our family and our elementary school teachers appreciate your assistance and professionalism .
Dear Janice,
… I would be happy to provide a parent testimonial. In fact, I recommend your services frequently to parents of students that I serve during the school year and to neighbors/friends. So here goes:
There are many options available for tutoring in Madison. However, the expertise and experience of the staff at MRLC met the specific needs of my children and did not waste their time with canned programming. MRLC provided focused and effective tutoring that enabled one of my kids to "catch up" (and then excel), and the other to fill in the gaps of reading comprehension and spelling skills that were not specifically addressed in school. For both of my children, the tutoring provided by MRLC was individualized - in focus and scope as well as in subject matter - which served to keep them engaged in the learning process and resulted in increased achievement and confidence in school. I highly recommend MRLC to any parent seeking individualized and expert help for their child!
... Hope that all is well with you. I truly mean everything said above ... and wish I could steer more parents in your direction!
My son's experience during 7 months with the Madison Reading and Learning Center has been wholly positive. MRLC's director and my son's tutor have created a program for him that directly reinforces his in-school program. His reading and spelling have improved dramatically, and his attitude toward reading has changed from discouragement to empowerment. I attribute this to the expertise of his tutor, and also her companionable approach to my child. I recommend MRLC to other parents.
My son had done very well in school, catching onto any concepts introduced by the teacher and understanding mathematics quickly, but he did not catch on to reading at the rate expected of an average student. After working with Janice at MRLC, he became an excellent reader and has done outstanding work throughout the rest of his schooling. I would be happy to recommend your center to anyone whose child needs help.
